Press Release
Hirsh and Linder: Week in Review
August 26, 2008
HARRISBURG—The Democratic State Senate Campaign Committee today continues its series of week-in-review press releases on featured candidates. For the week of August 18-24, we will profile the activities of 15th district candidate Judy Hirsh and 9th district candidate John Linder.
Judy Hirsh worked the 15th district hard this week, conducting five canvasses, collecting school supplies in Lower Paxton, attending the Harrisburg Senators baseball game on Saturday night, and participating in the Harrisburg Jewish Community Run/Walk 5K on Sunday morning. At the Run/Walk, Judy was one of 70 attendees who raised money for the sick and needy.
"As summer ends and our children go back to school, we need leaders in Harrisburg who are in touch with the needs of area schools," Hirsh said. "Sadly, my opponent Jeff Piccola voted against fully funding early childhood education. As a community leader who has worked for years to improve our education system, I know that Harrisburg must support our children. Education has societal implications as well: a new report indicates that a 10% boost in graduation rates could prevent up to 150 murders in Pennsylvania. I will fight for our children’s future in Harrisburg."
John Linder was very active in the 9th district, canvassing in Chester, Media, and Sadsbury Township and attending Sadsbury Township Community Day, the Chester City Community Fair and Block Party, and Urban Expression Dressing for Success. At Dressing for Success, John was interviewed by WYBE-TV, and the segment will air at Lincoln and Cheyney Universities.
"One of the doors we knocked on in Sadsbury Township belonged to a very nice woman who was a long-time Republican," Linder said. "She was cordial but rushed- she was watching Joe Biden's speech and did not want to miss it! She told me that both Barack Obama and I had her vote in November.
"People are ready for a change at both the local and national levels. Polls alone cannot convey the enthusiasm for my candidacy. I am proud that my campaign connected with over 1,000 people this past week, and I plan to reach out to thousands more over the next ten weeks."
