DSSCC Statement on Kim Ward Nomination
August 21, 2008
HARRISBURG—Democratic State Senate Campaign Committee spokesperson S.R. Sidarth today issued the following statement on the nomination of Republican Kim Ward in the 39th Senate district:
"Kim, welcome to the race. It is unfortunate that you have left your post as County Commissioner after only eight months of a four-year term, thereby failing to fulfill your obligation to the residents of Westmoreland County.
"We hope that you continue to support the disastrous presidency of George W. Bush, whom you worked for during his re-election campaign in 2004. After all, the vast majority of Westmoreland County families recognize how much of a failure the Bush administration’s policies have been. They are part of the reason why thousands of Pennsylvanian children still lack health insurance. Why the unemployment rate in Westmoreland County is at a three-year high and above the state average. Why the development of alternative energy sources has been stifled at a time when oil and gas companies are making record profits.
"We look forward to your explanation as to why another Bush loyalist should be voted into office. After eight years of disastrous management at the federal level, we do not need insider Kim Ward pushing Bush-Cheney policies in the State Senate at the behest of Republican Party bosses. It is time for a change, and that change for Westmoreland County is Tony Bompiani."
